WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--

Voice-enabled clinical reporting system solves the data acquisition problem in cardiology, improving patient care information and supporting outcomes data collection

Kurzweil Applied Intelligence Inc., today announced the availability of the Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for Cardiology with DataLINK. Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for Cardiology is a versatile, intelligent, easy-to-use clinical reporting system for diagnostic and interventional procedures in a catherization laboratory. The system provides a knowledge base that supports efficient and consistent report creation, with a vocabulary of 60,000 words. The DataLINK module provides compatibility with the American College of Cardiology (ACC) database standards and is one of the components of the LINKTools interconnect engine developed by LINK Medical Computing Inc., Waltham, Mass.

Kurzweil Clinical Reporter integrates the cardiology knowledge base, a structured report generator and Kurzweil VOICE for Windows to prompt the user for essential information and support the cardiologist through the entire process of producing comprehensive documentation. The DataLINK database allows patient demographics and hemodynamic measurements to be automatically incorporated into a report. By integrating the DataLINK database with Kurzweil Clinical Reporter, the complete and consistent reporting of both patient test data and patient encounter information is merged into one report, and key outcomes data from the report can be extracted and transmitted to clinical databases, meeting ACC standards.

According to Jonathan Bower, director product management for Kurzweil AI, "Combined with the DataLINK database, Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for cardiology is a complete data collection and management system. It can collect clinical data, instrumentation data and outcome data, provide voice-enabled editing in real-time and enter the information into database fields and/or generate reports."

Said Andrew Theodosiou, Link's executive vice president, "The power of combining DataLINK with the Kurzweil Clinical Reporter is the capability of eliminating both transcription and redundant data entry, where the need for redundant data entry has long been a barrier to the effective utilization of clinical databases. As a result, the cardiologist now has a versatile and robust tool to ensure quality, completeness and accessibility at a reduced cost."

Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for Cardiology will run on any laptop or desktop PC that meets the following specifications:

Pricing for the Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for Cardiology and DataLINK software ranges from $8,000 to $10,000 US list per user. Hardware, training and interfacing are quoted separately.

Kurzweil Clinical Reporter for Cardiology can be ordered today for delivery within 45-60 days.
